This very scenario prompted HaystackID to develop its Protect Analytics AI® Suite. In 2022, HaystackID faced a complex case involving massive amounts of unstructured data that needed to be reviewed and categorized within tight GDPR timelines, requiring notification of affected European citizens within 60 days. At the time, no existing tools on the market could efficiently address this challenge. This gap prompted HaystackID’s Chief Innovation Officer and President of Global Investigations and Cyber Incident Response, Michael D. Sarlo, to propose leveraging third-party vendors’ artificial intelligence (AI) tools to handle the vast data load.
In an interview with HaystackID’s Marketing team, John Brewer, our company’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer and Chief Data Scientist, said he and his team began surveying AI tools from providers like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google to identify a solution robust enough to handle the significant data load while ensuring compliance with GDPR’s strict timelines. After a thorough evaluation, the team found that Google’s personally identifiable information (PII) detection capabilities outperformed other options. With this foundation in place, HaystackID developed our solution to meet the specific demands of large-scale legal investigations and data protection: Protect Analytics AI® for Relativity.
“With the explosion of unstructured data sources, coupled with strict GDPR mandates requiring precise identification and protection of personal information, legal teams are overwhelmed by the sheer volume and complexity of data,” Sarlo said. “Protect Analytics AI Suite specifically addresses these pain points—enabling teams to cut through massive datasets with laser-focused accuracy and meet compliance standards.”

In 2024, we enhanced the Protect Analytics AI Suite by incorporating generative AI (GenAI) into the offering. The enhanced suite includes Protect Analytics AI – Sensitive Data Identification, Protect Analytics AI – Entity Extraction, and Protect Analytics AI – Deploy, all of which continue to transform cybersecurity-centric incident responses, breach investigations, and notification actions by decreasing time-to-precision insight and action from weeks to days and days to hours.
“Our approach is one of balance—refining our suite with AI enhancements to elevate the precision and efficiency of eDiscovery and cybersecurity tasks while ensuring that human insight remains integral to the process,” said Brewer.
