First-Level Review

This capability automates initial reviews traditionally handled by large teams of contract attorneys, allowing human reviewers to focus on quality control. With proper prompt drafting and testing, this capability can significantly outperform human reviewers in recall, precision, accuracy, and speed for specific datasets.

Quality Control (QC) of First-Level Reviewers

In this workflow, human reviewers conduct the first-level review and periodically submit document sets to Core Intelligence AI for quality control. The AI reviews these sets to identify discrepancies, coding issues, and areas where reviewers may need additional training.

Multi-Language Review

This method reviews documents in multiple languages using a single set of prompts, reducing the need for multilingual reviewers and extensive machine translation. Teams can submit documents to the AI for summaries, relevance determinations, and decision explanations, significantly reducing costs.

Privilege Review

Core Intelligence AI comprehends the complexities of various types of attorney-client privilege and can conduct complete privilege reviews. By selecting the type of privilege for analysis and inputting a list of known attorney names and safe domains, Core Intelligence AI can indicate the type of privilege present in a document, identify attorneys named in the document, and create a privilege log entry.

PII/PHI Identification and Extraction

This process automates the identification and extraction of personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI), integrating with technology-assisted review (TAR) systems. This iterative process continues until the TAR system identifies a few relevant documents, after which the system conducts an elusion sample to confirm the absence of relevant documents in the unreviewed set.

Reviewing Received Productions

Core Intelligence AI quickly identifies critical documents from opposing parties' productions using targeted criteria, reducing the reliance on extensive manual review. This workflow optimizes identifying critical documents and streamlining preparation for depositions and other legal processes.

Identifying the “Strike Zone” for Generative AI-Based Document Review

Since ChatGPT exploded into the public consciousness in late 2022, the legal field has speculated on the possibility of using Large Language Models (LLMs) to execute first- level review of documents. Using raw data in a low-pressure environment, without serious timeline pressure, we were able to repeatedly test and experiment with both the technology’s uses and workflows to get the best results from the LLM review. The intent of this paper is to share our findings with the eDiscovery community to help inform them of the strengths and limitations of using GenAI in review.
