A Breach of Privacy: Identifying and Protecting Personal Data When Its Integrity Is Compromised
April 17th at 1:00pm ET
After a cyber incident, the need to quickly identify and associate personally identifiable information (PII) has exploded over the last 5 years. Being able to locate and act upon compromised personal information is critical due to the ever-increasing number of data breaches, coupled with heightened regulatory requirements.
This aspect of the incident response involves parsing compromised data to identify PII belonging to potentially affected individuals so that an organization can take appropriate privacy/data protection or other compliance action in response to the data incident.
During this session, we will discuss:
- How PII identification in the incident response context is different from eDiscovery
- Various approaches to the often-monumental task of sifting through mountains of data for personal PII.
We will also address:
- Strategies for identifying affected data subjects and their corresponding data elements, such as PHI or PII.
- Approaches to assigning affected data subjects a jurisdiction and assessing regulatory obligations.
- Prophylactic strategies for speeding identification and association of PII in the event of a data incident.
